Let's Talk About Mental Health is a comprehensive mental health awareness and suicide prevention programme aimed at young people 16+ but which is also relevant to anyone who is concerned about their own mental health or worried about a friend or family member.
The programme has developed out of Youth Suicide Prevention Ireland's Four Steps to Help Schools Programme which we provided in schools up to 2020 and the COVID lockdowns. We decided during the COVID period that we needed a more comprehensive programme that provided easier access to our youth mental health awareness and suicide prevention workshops as demand was incredibly high. This lead us to work with John Sharpson to produce our Let's Talk About Mental Health video presentation that can be viewed HERE
The Programme now includes:
Youth mental health is a critical issue that demands our attention and open dialogue. In today's fast-paced and often high-pressure society, we are all facing unique challenges that can significantly impact our mental well-being. From the pressures of social media to the expectations set by academic and personal achievements, the mental health landscape, particularly for young people, is complex and multifaceted. Acknowledging and talking about these challenges is the first step towards empowering ourselves to seek help and support. It's crucial to create safe spaces where we feel heard and understood, where our concerns are not minimized, but rather addressed with empathy and concern.
Engaging in conversations about mental health not only raises awareness but also breaks down the stigmas associated with mental health issues. By openly discussing these topics, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for ourselves and others to thrive. It's important to recognise that mental health is just as important as physical health and deserves the same level of care and attention. Resources, education, and accessible support systems are essential in helping us all to navigate our mental health journeys. We must commit to continuous dialogue and action to ensure the well-being of our minds, paving the way for a healthier, more resilient mental landscape.
